The Sims 4 Mods, Saves, & Tray Folder (Location & Simulator Tutorial)
If you are looking to install custom content (CC) or gameplay mods, you need to know exactly where to put those files.
For Windows PC users, the typical location of your Sims 4 Mods folder is:
Documents \ Electronic Arts \ The Sims 4 \ Mods
If you have already launched the game at least once, the mods folder will be generated automatically. But simply dropping files in here isn't always enough! Different types of files have strict rules about how they can be organized and where they can be placed.

Where is the Sims 4 Mods Folder on a Mac?
If you are playing on an Apple computer, your file path is almost identical to the PC version. Open your Finder and navigate to:
Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 / Mods
Note: If you are using iCloud Drive to sync your Documents folder, make sure your Electronic Arts folder is actually stored locally on your hard drive. The game cannot read mods that are stored strictly in the cloud!
How deep can you put folders in the Sims 4 Mods folder?
The Sims 4 game engine has strict limits on how deep it will search inside your folders to find custom content.
- Script Mods (.ts4script): Max 1 Folder Deep.
- Standard CC (.package): Max 5 Folders Deep.
Why are my Sims 4 mods not showing up in-game?
If you have placed your files in the correct folder, respected the depth limits, and unzipped everything, but your CC still isn't showing up, run through this quick checklist:
- Did you enable mods in the game settings? By default, The Sims 4 disables all mods after every official game update. Open the game, go to Options > Game Options > Other, and ensure both "Enable Custom Content and Mods" and "Script Mods Allowed" are checked. Apply the changes and restart your game.
- Is your Resource.cfg file missing? Inside your Mods folder, there should be a small file named
Resource.cfg. This is the file that tells the game to look for your subfolders! If you accidentally deleted it, don't panic. Just take everything out of your Mods folder, launch the game once, and it will automatically generate a brand-new one.
